Michael Lewis, author of the very popular Moneyball and Liar's Poker, quietly released a book called Coach: Lessons on the Game of Life. It is a short book (92 pages) about Lewis' high school baseball coach. The only other place I saw it was on the S+B Best of List (see leadership).

February 6th's edition of BusinessWeek has a two-and-a-half page spread adapted from Lee Eisenberg's book The Number. (Jack said it's one of his favorite parts of the book) Now I have a long way to retirement. Yet, my investment savvy father instilled the practice of saving for retirement ever since my first paycheck--maybe even before.

Forbes' Best Business Books of 2005

I thought we had seen all of the lists for 2005, but Forbes published their selections on Tuesday. To determine the very best of the crop, we polled a dozen writers, editors and publishers from Forbes. Thirty-three books were nominated, which we then winnowed down to the five very best, with the help of the editors of Forbes magazine and Forbes.

One of the treasures we uncovered on our trip to New York was a new edition to Napolean Hill's Think and Grow Rich from publisher Tarcher Penguin. This is the grandfather of books on motivational thought. Hill was a journalist that Andrew Carnegie hired to find out what the formula of success was.

A regular on the bookshelf next to my desk, is Gordon MacKenzie's Orbiting the Giant Hairball: A Corporate Fool's Guide to Surviving with Grace. While I admit that I have yet to read the entire book (I'm about 3/4 of the way done), I keep going over the beginning. Today, I have returned to one part several times.
