News & Opinion: BookExpo 2004--The Professional View

Hi everybody, I am back. This has been the couple weeks from Hell. BookExpo followed by the death of my friend and boss resulted in an incredibly messed up desk. I have finally come up for air. Todd had promised an overview of the convention from a guy who has been there many times. Well I thought it was the most dynamic convention this century, by far. The aisles were fuller and stayed fuller longer than recent memory.
Now business books, that was different. None of the big trade publishers displayed any business titles except Portfolio/Penguin. The good news is the John Wiley has had a great year and has some very good titles coming this Fall. Thomas Nelson is starting a business imprint called Nelson Business. Harvard Business School Press has some great titles coming. The Gallup organization has started Gallup Press. Harvard University Pressdifferent that HBSPhas four solid books coming this Fall.
All in all, this was an exciting convention and makes me feel positive about the future of my niche.
