News & Opinion: Powell on Business Books
Michael Powell is the founder of Portland-based Powells Books. His flagship store is over a block long and offers over a million titles. He introduced a simple idea - offer used books next to new books. From the "How I Did It" Column of Inc. Magazine's May 2004 issue:
Anything Peter Drucker wrote I would read, but I won't read any other business book. I think most business books respond to people's sense of urgency to do it today. The truth is there's no shortcut. You've got to be able to manage employees, understand finances, and you certainly have to understand your product. There is no way to fake that.
