News & Opinion: The Corporation

By: Dylan Schleicher @ 8:56 PM – Filed under: Management & Workplace Culture

I think you would have to call The Corporation an anti-business book. Author Joel Bakan's thesis is that The Corporation has only one purpose - produce profit. The author contends that pursuit of that goal harms people and the planet. I think you are going to be hearing more about this one. You can check out the website at www.thecorporation.tv. Fast Company had a one page review in its May issue. The Beyond Branding Blog has a post on it. Check the April 10th entry titled "Story of the Decade?" (sorry no permalink). The book is also a movie. You can find the trailer here. This from the movie poster:
STARRING 7 CEOs, 3 VPs, 2 WHISTLEBOWERS, 1 BROKER, 1 SPY, AND 1 REALLY BIG MESS WITH MICHAEL MOORE, NOAM CHOMSKY, NAOMI KLEIN, AND MILTON FRIEDMAN AS THEMSELVES SPECIAL GUEST STAR: THE FBI'S TOP CONSULTANT ON PSYCHOPATHS
The movie will be released in June on the arthouse circuit. I don't know if I agree with the viewpoint, but the trailer was good enough to make me want to see the movie. Anyone read the book?
