This weekend, I was lamenting about the money that is spent marketing movie projects and wondering why companies don't understand the importance of word-of-mouth.
Galley Cat has a great post on the subject of word-of-mouth in the area of book selling. The post quotes a independent study and Dave Balter of BzzAgents. It also talks about an interesting way Knopf is using BlogAds to promote books.
